Literature Search

Need to find evidence-based information to support patient care, research, guideline and care pathway development, audit or policy documentation?  Want to find up-to-date material on a topic of interest?

The library provides a free literature search service to all UHB staff. A professional Librarian will carry out searches on your behalf to identify journal articles, guidelines, systematic reviews and other evidence-based information to help meet your requirements. This service might be useful if you are searching a complex topic, struggling to find material (or narrow down the amount you find) or if you simply want to make sure you are getting the best results.

How do I request a literature search?

Requests can be submitted by completing a paper form in the library, by the library intranet page  (available to UHB staff only) or via our online system BASEdoc. For more information on using and registering for BASEDoc visit our Article Requests page.

How soon will I receive the results of my search?

Please allow up to 10 working days for your search to be completed. Results will be emailed to you in PDF format unless otherwise specified.

Please contact the library for further information on this service.

Changes to the BASE Library Service

As a response to Covid-19, some BASE libraries have now closed their counter services (all library closures will be posted on the Locations page). All library teams are still providing an enquiry service and can be contacted by email and phone if their counter is not open. Reservations are not available, however you may browse the catalogue and access e-resources. Items on loan have been automatically renewed and will not incur a fine. Most libraries are not providing new member registrations. More information on current service can be found here.
