Borrowing rights

Members can borrow a total of ten standard loan items for four weeks from any BASE library.

External members can borrow a total of four standard loan items for two weeks from any BASE library.

Books sourced from libraries outside the ‘BASE’ area do not count towards your borrowing limit.

Members can reserve up to ten items including books from any library, overnight loans from your home library, equipment loans from your home library, multimedia loans (1 week, 2 week, 4 week or 8 week) from any library and multimedia overnight loans from your home library.

External members can reserve up to four items including books from any library, overnight loans from your home library, equipment loans from your home library, multimedia loans (1 week, 2 week, 4 week or 8 week) from any library and multimedia overnight loans from your home library.

Reserved items will automatically be sent to your home BASE library. 

You can renew an item three times without returning it, unless all copies are reserved. If you wish to borrow the item again, it should be made available to other members first for at least one week. Except where there are sufficient copies available in the library, at that time, for all members to use.

Journals cannot be borrowed.

You cannot borrow any items until your account has been recorded, checked and approved on the BASE library system.

Members can borrow from and return items to any BASE library. Please check with the library for access restrictions and please be aware that we may validate your identity when visiting in person.

Get text messages from your library!

Would you like a text message when your books are due or you have a book to collect from us?

Base Libraries are now offering free text alerts for members.

To start using the service, please enter your mobile telephone number, work email address and another identifier such as your name or library card number in the boxes. By entering your details you are consenting to your personal information being processed and held according to the Privacy Notice

You can also log into your account and go to 'your messaging' to enter your SMS number and messaging options, or contact your local Base Library to opt in. You can remove your number at any time from your account to stop receiving texts.
